1. Who we are

Metrestick.ca ("Metrestick", "we", "us") is operated by Fractal SaaS Inc., located in Ontario, Canada. We provide free, educational personal-finance benchmarking tools built on official Canadian government data.

Questions or privacy requests: privacy@metrestick.ca. The person responsible for the protection of personal information (our Privacy Officer, as required under Quebec's Law 25) is Privacy Officer, reachable at the same address.

2. Our privacy-first approach

Metrestick is designed to need as little personal information as possible:

  • You can use the site anonymously. The calculators and benchmarks do not require an account.
  • Calculator inputs are processed in your browser wherever possible and are not sent to or stored on our servers unless you choose to save them to an account.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to serve behavioural advertising.

This policy explains what we do collect, why, and your choices.

3. Information we collect

(a) Information you provide

  • Calculator inputs (e.g., income, province, age, net worth). Used to compute your results in your browser. Not stored by us unless you save them to an account (see (c)).
  • Account information (if you create one): your email address and the identifier from your sign-in provider, via Firebase Authentication (Google).
  • Saved profile & history (if you create an account): the financial details you choose to save (such as income, province, age, net worth, goals) and dated snapshots of your standings. This is sensitive personal information and we treat it accordingly.
  • Email subscription: if you opt in, your email address, to send the updates you requested (CASL-compliant consent — see Section 7).
  • Communications: information in messages you send us.

(b) Information collected automatically

  • Usage & device data: standard server logs and limited analytics (e.g., pages viewed, approximate region, browser type) to operate and improve the site, via Google Analytics/Vercel Analytics.
  • Cookies / local storage: see Section 6.

(c) If you create an account Saved profile data is stored in Firebase Firestore (Google Cloud) under your account and is readable and writable only by you (enforced by access rules). You can edit or delete it at any time.

4. How we use information

We use information to: provide and operate the tools; compute and (for account holders) save and track your standings; send updates you opted into; respond to you; maintain security and prevent abuse; understand aggregate usage to improve the product; and meet legal obligations. We do not use your saved financial details to advertise to you.

5. Consent (PIPEDA / Law 25)

We rely on your consent to collect and use your personal information. For sensitive financial information saved to an account, we seek your express consent at the point you choose to save it. You may withdraw consent at any time (subject to legal/contractual limits) by deleting your data or contacting us; withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.

6. Cookies, analytics & affiliate tracking

  • Essential cookies / local storage keep the site working and remember preferences (e.g., language, sign-in session).
  • Analytics help us understand aggregate usage, via Google Analytics/Vercel Analytics.
  • Affiliate links: some outbound links to third-party financial products (e.g., Wealthsimple) are affiliate links. If you click one, the third party may set its own cookie to attribute a referral. We may receive a commission. We do not share your personal information with affiliates — attribution happens on the partner's side. See our Affiliate Disclosure and Section 11.
  • You can control cookies in your browser; blocking some may affect functionality.

7. Email & anti-spam (CASL)

We send commercial/marketing emails (e.g., a periodic "how you compare" update) only with your consent, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every such email includes a working unsubscribe link, and we honour opt-outs promptly. Transactional/account emails (e.g., sign-in links) may be sent as needed to provide the service, via Resend.

8. Service providers & disclosure

We share personal information only as needed with vetted service providers acting on our behalf, under contract, including: hosting & infrastructure (Vercel for web hosting; Firebase Firestore (Google Cloud) and Firebase Authentication (Google) for accounts and saved data); email delivery (Resend); and analytics (Google Analytics/Vercel Analytics).

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a business transfer (with notice where required). We do not sell personal information.

9. Where your information is processed (cross-border)

Some providers may store or process data outside your province or outside Canada (including the United States). Our primary data region is northamerica-northeast2 / Toronto. Where data is processed elsewhere, it may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. Law 25 requires that we assess and disclose such transfers; contact us for details.

10. Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described or as required by law. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account deletion. Subscription data is kept until you unsubscribe. Aggregate, de-identified data may be kept longer.

11. Affiliate relationships

Metrestick participates in affiliate programs and may earn a commission when you sign up for a third-party product through our links, at no extra cost to you. These relationships do not influence the official-data benchmarks or methodology, and clicking an affiliate link does not share your personal information with the partner. 12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards (e.g., encryption in transit, access controls limiting saved data to your account). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Your rights

Subject to applicable law (PIPEDA, Law 25), you may: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction; request deletion; withdraw consent; and, under Law 25, request portability of certain data and raise concerns about automated processing. To exercise these, contact privacy@metrestick.ca; we respond within the timelines the law requires. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

14. Children

Metrestick is intended for adults (the age of majority in your province) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

15. Third-party sites

Our site links to third-party websites (government data sources, affiliate partners). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies; we are not responsible for them.

16. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date and, where required, communicated to account holders.
